Man shot dead in W. Philly Thursday ID'd

A 28-year-old man man shot dead in West Philadelphia on Thursday has been identified as Jerry Brooks, of the 5500 block of Catharine Street in West Philadelphia, police said Friday.

A 28-year-old man man shot dead in West Philadelphia on Thursday has been identified as Jerry Brooks, of the 5500 block of Catharine Street in West Philadelphia, police said Friday.

It was about noon Thursday when officers responding to a 911 call of a "person with a gun" found Brooks outside on the 700 block of South 58th Street, near Catharine, with a gunshot wound to his head. Medics rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward, at 12:28 p.m.

No arrest has been made in the case and the motive of the shooting is not known. Anyone with information on this slaying is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or 911. As with all homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
