Light snow, April cold snap hit Philly area

Everyone expects some April showers. But those showers are supposed to refer to rain, not snow.

Everyone expects some April showers.

But those showers are supposed to refer to rain, not snow.

Still, light snow was falling in parts of the Philadelphia area Tuesday morning. Isolated flurries are expected throughout the region during the morning, though no accumulation is expected, the National Weather Service said.

With early-morning temperatures in the low 30s, the area was also under a freeze warning until 10 a.m., according to the weather service. A freeze watch will be in place from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, as another unseasonably chilly night is expected.

The cold could kill or damage sensitive vegetation, the warning says. That means you should bring in any potted plants that are outdoors.

Temperatures are slated to rise during the day Tuesday, but will likely only reach the mid 40s, forecasters said. Wednesday is expected to be warmer, with highs in the mid 50s.
