Girl, 4, critical after SW Philly crash

A 4-year-old girl remained in critical condition after a multi-vehicle accident in Southwest Philadelphia, police said late Wednesday afternoon.

The girl and three other children were passengers in a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that was struck by a tractor-trailer truck. The truck, driven by a 57-year-old man, was coming out of a parking lot on the 5200 block of Grays Avenue about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The crash caused the SUV, driven by a 32-year-old man, to hit three parked vehicles, police said.

The 4-year-old girl was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition with head trauma.

She was not in a car seat, as required for her age, nor was she wearing a seat belt, police said.

Three boys, ages 4, 8 and 11, who were also passengers in the SUV, suffered abrasions and were hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

No names were released, and police said the investigation was ongoing.
