A Montgomery County man is facing animal cruelty charges for the death of dog discovered dead in a crate sealed in plastic along a road earlier this month.

Upper Dublin Township police said Friday that Charles McCafferty IV, of Lansdale, killed the Staffordshire Terrier that was found dumped in a metal crate on March 9.

McCafferty, 22, owned the puppy, which suffocated to death, police said.

Authorities found the underweight dog in the plastic-wrapped and duct-taped crate alongside Welsh Road near Blair Mill Road in the township's Willow Grove section.

Police have said investigators found feces in the cage, suggesting the puppy was alive when the crate was wrapped in plastic.

Officials have estimated the animal's age as six months to 1 year.
