7 hurt as SEPTA bus crashes into bank

At least seven passengers were injured when a SEPTA bus driver lost control and crashed into a bank Monday, authorities said.

At least seven passengers were injured when a SEPTA bus driver lost control and crashed into a bank Monday, authorities said.

The Route 55 bus was in the area of Old York Road and Nedro Avenue when the accident occurred around noon, police said. The bus struck the corner of a PNC Bank building, causing structural damage, police said. The bank was evacuated, police said.

The driver was adjusting the lift on the back of the bus and apparently failed to secure the brake system, police said.

Seven passengers were taken to Einstein Medical Center and Temple University Hospital with minor injuries and were expected to be released, police said. SEPTA spokeswoman Kristin Geiger said investigators had not determined what caused the driver to lose control.
