Police: Man, 65, pulls gun on two assailants

A 65-year-old man allegedly shot and wounded two men who were assaulting him near his Queen Village home Tuesday night, according to police.

Inspector Raymond Evers said the two men, ages 21 and 20, started beating up the older man near his home on the 700 block of South Second Street after an argument around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The older man, who had a license to carry, pulled his .45-caliber handgun and fired three shots, hitting each younger man once, Evers said.

The younger men, who were not identified by police, were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Evers said. The 65-year-old was treated at Methodist Hospital for injuries to his mouth and head, Evers said. He was being questioned by police late Tuesday night. Evers said it was too early to determine what charges, if any, the men involved might face. - Chris Palmer
