Mt. Ephraim man convicted of sharing child porn

A Camden County man was convicted Wednesday of sharing photos and videos of child pornography over the Internet, prosecutors said.

A Camden County man was convicted Wednesday of sharing photos and videos of child pornography over the Internet, prosecutors said.

Gerald D. Laphan, 28, of Mount Ephraim, was found guilty by a Superior Court jury of second-degree distribution of child pornography and related offenses.

He faces a sentence of five to 10 years in prison on the second-degree conviction. He will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law.

Laphan was arrested in 2012 after investigators traced a computer address used to share child porn to his home, prosecutors said.

Two laptop computers were seized and forensic examiners found they contained 265 child-porn files.

The case was initiated by a detective from the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office who was able to download three videos from Laphan's computer, including a video of a man raping a prepubescent girl.

"Laphan and his kind put children in danger of being raped, tortured, and sexually exploited so that they can watch," said acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman. "They belong in prison."

Laphan is to be sentenced March 18.
