Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that followed a police chase in Chester early Monday and left one person dead and another wounded.

The two were shot after 2 a.m. on the 1200 block of Keystone Drive, according to police radio reports.

Chester police confirmed that the incident was an officer-involved shooting and said county authorities were investigating.

Chester police Capt. Anita Amaro said a vehicle was being pursued by Upland police and gunfire that followed left one of the two people in the vehicle dead. The other person was shot in the left ankle.

Images from the scene showed a crashed SUV with bullet holes in the passenger side and shattered rear windows.

The reason for the pursuit and why officers opened fire weren't immediately known.

A woman at the scene told television news outlets that her cousin was killed and her brother was wounded.

She said she was on the phone with them when she heard the gunfire.

The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division and the District Attorney's Officer are investigating.

Prosecutors are in the process of collecting evidence and conducting interviews, the District Attorney's Office said. The criminal investigation division wouldn't comment on the shooting.
