A 30-year-old man was in critical condition Friday night after being shot five times while driving a car that then flipped over outside Einstein Medical Center in the city's Logan section, police said.

Just after 9 p.m., the man was driving a Toyota in the 1100 block of West Clarkson Street when an occupant of a gold-colored SUV opened fire, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The Toyota sped off for several blocks until it reached the 1300 block of West Tabor Road, where it struck two parked cars and one moving vehicle before overturning at Tabor and Old York Roads. The victim was taken to Einstein with five gunshot wounds to his lower back. A woman driving the moving vehicle was also taken to Einstein to be treated for pain.

The Toyota had 10 bullet holes in it. Ten bags of a "green leaf substance" were found outside the vehicle, as were packets of pills, Small said. The entire incident may have been recorded by Einstein surveillance cameras, Small said. - Robert Moran
