A 35-year-old man walking his two Chihuahuas on a neighborhood shopping trip was fatally shot Wednesday night in West Philadelphia, police said.
The victim had just left a variety store and was walking in the 4600 block of Kingsessing Avenue about 7:40 p.m. when he was approached by an assailant who opened fire, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Police transported the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m. He had been shot in the neck, chest, back, arms, and legs, Small said.
The shooter was described as a male in a gray hooded sweatshirt and orange hat who got into the passenger seat of a silver minivan that left the scene. The victim was a block from his home when he was attacked, Small said. The dogs were in the care of a neighbor. - Robert Moran
