CPR instruction to be offered free, with no age restrictions

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Ambulance Corps wants to teach everyone how to save a life.

The volunteer ambulance company is to hold a "Community Heart Starters" event to teach how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium at St. Kevin's Parish Life Center, 200 W. Sproul Rd. There is no cost and no age restriction for the noncertification class. Children are encouraged to come. There are to be refreshments, prizes, and giveaways for participants.

The cost will be covered by a fund-raiser at TD Bank and money from the ambulance company's public education budget.

"If one person is saved and can be released from the hospital neurologically intact, we have just justified this entire expense," said Benjamin Miller, director of public education at the ambulance corps. - Mari A. Schaefer
