A 62-year-old man remained in critical condition Friday morning after he was stabbed more than 20 times during a possible robbery attempt inside a shop he operates in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

The attack occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday inside Southwest Auto Tag Service Inc., 6249 Dicks Ave., according to Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. The victim, Patrick Spinosa, was transported by medics to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with stab wounds on his head, back, and arms.

It was unclear whether the robber, a man in his 20s wearing a yellow T-shirt and dark pants, got away with anything, Walker said. There was no video inside the shop. There were signs of a bloody, violent struggle. The assailant locked the front door when he left, and responding officers had to kick it in to get to Spinosa. - Robert Moran
