Bill Cosby loses another round in federal court

A federal judge on Friday denied a motion on behalf of Bill Cosby to investigate the public release of a 2005 deposition in a sexual-assault lawsuit that was later settled confidentially.

A federal judge on Friday denied a motion on behalf of Bill Cosby to investigate the public release of a 2005 deposition in a sexual-assault lawsuit that was later settled confidentially.

Details from the deposition were published by the New York Times in July. The newspaper said it obtained the transcript from a court-reporting service that had been hired by lawyers for Andrea Constand, the accuser in the lawsuit.

Patrick J. O'Connor, Cosby's lawyer, sought to investigate whether Delores M. Troiani, Constand's lawyer, was involved in the release of the transcript.

U.S. District Judge John R. Padova ruled against Cosby's request and also against a request from Constand to sanction Cosby's side for making the request and have them pay her legal costs in the matter. - Robert Moran
