1 dead, 1 hurt in West Philly shooting

One man was killed and another wounded in a double shooting in West Philadelphia late Tuesday. Philadelphia police said officers were called to investigate reports of gunfire near 62nd and Market streets about 10:30 p.m.

Philadelphia police said officers were called to investigate reports of gunfire near 62nd and Market streets about 10:30 p.m.

A 26-year-old man who was shot once in the chest was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m..

Another man, 36, was taken to Mercy Philadelphia Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his buttocks. He was listed in stable condition.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that investigators found 21 spent shell casings at the scene, from three different handguns.

The motive for the shootout wasn't known.

No arrests have been made and no suspect description was available Wednesday morning.

The slain man's name wasn't released because his family hadn't been notified.
