Preparedness events are set

WEST CHESTER Chester County officials are recognizing National Preparedness Month, which starts Tuesday, by distributing preparedness information and encouraging residents to sign up for emergency alerts through ReadyChesCo.

National Preparedness Month is a national effort each September to encourage people to prepare for emergencies in their homes and communities.

The theme this year is "Don't Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today."

Each week of the national campaign features a different disaster scenario: floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and power outages.

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services plans to attend Swingin' Summer Thursday in West Chester on Sept. 3, the Mushroom Festival the weekend after Labor Day in Kennett Square, and the Chester County Restaurant Festival in West Chester on Sept. 20.

The Chester County Library in Exton also will host a display with preparedness information this month. - Michaelle Bond
