WYNNEWOOD A new white oak tree is to be planted at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary on Tuesday in honor of the visit of Pope Francis.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society will plant the tree. Tuesday is the day of prayer for the care of creation, an annual day established by Francis.

The pope's recent encyclical about the environment is a reminder to pray and care for the environment, Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput said in an announcement of the tree-planting event.

The day should "remind each of us of our role as custodians of creation," Chaput said.

The Horticultural Society said it will be the 500,000th tree in its "Plant One Million" campaign. The tree is to be planted Tuesday morning and blessed after evening prayer at the seminary in Wynnewood. - Laura McCrystal
