Montco sessions to address financial fraud

WEST POTTSGROVE Montgomery County officials will offer a series of presentations in September to help youth sports organizations prevent financial fraud.

WEST POTTSGROVE Montgomery County officials will offer a series of presentations in September to help youth sports organizations prevent financial fraud.

The presentations are to offer advice on bookkeeping and proactive measures to avoid theft or fraud.

"Youth sports groups too often fall victim to theft and fraud perpetrated by trusted volunteers," county Controller Stewart J. Greenleaf said. "These presentations are intended to share knowledge and expertise with youth sports groups in the county."

Greenleaf and District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman are partnering to offer six hour-long sessions.

Ferman said her office has seen youth sports organizations, local Boy Scout troops, and parent teacher organizations fall victim to theft. She said she hopes to help organizations learn checks and balances and methods for self-policing.

The first presentation is to be held Sept. 8 at the West Pottsgrove Township Building.

Other sessions are: Sept. 9 at the Gladwyne V.F.W.; Sept. 14 at the Lower Moreland Community Hall; Sept. 15 at the Lower Gwynedd Township Building; Sept. 16 at the West Norriton Township Building; and Sept. 21 at the Limerick Township Building.

All sessions are to begin at 6:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
