A 20-year-old man, whose name was not released, was in custody after he allegedly exchanged gunfire with police officers Wednesday night in the city's East Germantown section.

Just before 9 p.m., police responded to calls about a person with a gun in the 100 block of East Pastorius Street and confronted an armed man, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Four officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he ran and started firing at the officers, who returned fire, Small said.

No one was hit and the officers quickly took the man into custody. Police recovered two guns at the scene, including one that had been completely discharged, Small said. - Robert Moran
