Milbourne to run for Montco coroner

NORRISTOWN Montgomery County Democrats have nominated Michael Milbourne, a cardiologist from Horsham, to run for coroner in November. Milbourne's name on the ballot will replace that of Walter I. Hofman, the Democrat who has served as coroner since 2008 but withdrew his reelection bid this month.

Milbourne is a nuclear cardiologist and radiologist who specializes in noninvasive heart imaging, the county Democratic Committee said in a statement.

At a meeting Wednesday, Milbourne told party leaders he would use the coroner's office as a platform to fight drug abuse and raise awareness of heart disease, diabetes, and other public health issues.

His Republican opponent, anesthesiologist Phil Mandato Jr., has also vowed to focus on the epidemic of drug overdoses if elected. - Jessica Parks
