Larry Israel, 95, a veteran media executive who was president of the Washington Post Co. from 1973 to 1977 and led an expansion of the company's radio and television holdings, died Wednesday at a hospital in Bethesda, Md. The cause was complications from a recent heart ailment, said his daughter, Susan Israel.

The cause was complications from a recent heart ailment, said his daughter, Susan Israel.

Mr. Israel spent most of his decades-long career in broadcasting, starting out as a radio journalist shortly after World War II. He crossed from editorial to corporate operations and was president of the Westinghouse Broadcasting stations group before joining the Post Co. in 1968.

Mr. Israel was hired as chairman and chief executive of Post-Newsweek Stations Inc., a Post Co. subsidiary that owned the WTOP radio and TV stations in Washington and WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Fla.

Also a director and vice president of the parent Post Co., Mr. Israel oversaw the acquisition of a television station in Miami and a radio station in Cincinnati, among other projects. - Washington Post
