A Philadelphia man accused of stabbing his wife and toddler daughter Sunday inside their West Oak Lane home was extradited to Philadelphia on Wednesday from Maryland, where he was caught while allegedly trying to flee, according to police.

Stephen Burton, 41, will face three counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related charges, police said.

He is accused of stabbing his wife, Danecia Berrian, a a teacher at Rowen Elementary School in West Oak Lane, and his 21-month-old daughter, and attempting to stab his 4-year-old son inside their home.

Berrian was able to prevent Burton from stabbing the son, police said Thursday, though the boy did suffer a minor injury from banging his head against a wall in their home on the 1900 block of Dallas Road.

Berrian was listed in critical condition at Einstein Hospital on Sunday. Her family has since requested that her condition be kept private, hospital officials said.

Burton was stopped Sunday in Baltimore on Interstate 95 near the Fort McHenry Tunnel, police said. He did not fight extradition back to Pennsylvania, and court records indicated Thursday that he was being held at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.
