The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on Thursday announced Gary Tuggle, 23-year agency veteran who has served in postings ranging from Baltimore to Barbados, as the next head of its Philadelphia Field Division.

He will oversee agency operations in the city and at five regional offices scattered across Pennsylvania and Delaware. He replaces former DEA Special Agent in Charge David Dongilli, who retired last year.

Tuggle began his career as a Baltimore City police officer and joined the DEA in 1992. Prior to his assignment to the Philadelphia division, he worked as the assistant special agent in charge of the agency's Washington office.

In a statement, Tuggle said he intends to continue the Philadelphia office's focus on fighting heroin and prescription drug abuse. - Jeremy Roebuck
