Seven towns getting $3 million in grants for urban centers

WEST CHESTER The county commissioners announced Tuesday that they have awarded seven municipalities close to $3 million in grants meant to refurbish the county's urban centers.

The amount is in line with what the Community Revitalization Program gives out annually, said Pat Bokovitz, director of the Chester County Department of Community Development.

Elverson Borough will receive $590,000 for landscape improvements and a wastewater lagoon closure.

Oxford Borough will get $575,000 for streetscape improvements on Wheeler Boulevard that include replacing water lines and valves, adding hydrants, installing a stormwater system, and sidewalks.

Coatesville will receive $500,000 toward the building of a parking structure at the corner of First Avenue and East Diamond Street. The two-level deck is to support the $20 million Coatesville Gateway Redevelopment Project on Lincoln Highway.

Phoenixville will receive $500,000 to replace water mains, and West Grove, $400,000 for reconstruction of Hillside Avenue, water main replacement, and installation of fire hydrants.

Honey Brook Borough will get $250,000 for infrastructure on White Birch Street and a transportation reconstruction project, and Downingtown, will receive $180,000 to improve sewer service in the Johnsontown neighborhood.
