A Drexel Hill man died after falling from a ladder while trying to cut down tree limbs.

The freak accident happened at about 8:45 p.m. Monday, when the man lost his balance while cutting branches from a large tree on his front lawn on the 5200 block Reservation Road, according to Upper Darby police.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood on Tuesday identified the deceased man as 53-year-old Thomas Eppright.

Eppright was using an electric saw to try to remove branches from the tree when he fell backward, Chitwood said.

"It's just a horrible accident," he said.

A neighbor, who works as a nurse, saw the incident and administered CPR.

Medics took Eppright to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.
