Homicide detectives questioned several people Thursday in connection with the slaying of an 85-year-old woman in East Mount Airy this week, police said.

Regina Holmes was found with her throat slashed Monday morning at her home in the 300 block of Roumfort Road. She had been beaten and stabbed multiple times.

"We're making really good progress," said Homicide Capt. James Clark. Detectives served search warrants at several locations in the city, Clark said, adding that charges might be filed soon.

Holmes' missing silver 2007 Toyota was found Tuesday in the 3100 block of Stillman Street in North Philadelphia.

Holmes worked at the Chestnut Hill Local newspaper two days a week. When she didn't show up for work on Monday, employees called her son, who called police.

Holmes was found dead in her front bedroom, dressed for bed.
