Getting around Philly for Independence Day

Independence Day celebrations in Philadelphia are prompting additional public transit service, schedule changes and road closures. Here's what you need to know about getting around the city for the Fourth of July weekend:

Independence Day celebrations in Philadelphia are prompting additional public transit service, schedule changes and road closures.

Here's what you need to know about getting around the city for the Fourth of July weekend:

SEPTA

- Schedules: Buses, trolleys and subways will run on a Sunday schedule on Saturday, while Regional Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule both Friday and Saturday.

- Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines: Additional trains will run from 4 p.m. Saturday through 1 a.m. Sunday. Riders can expect trains every five to seven minutes. Overnight weekend service will operate as normal.

- Trolleys: Additional trolleys on Routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36 will run Saturday evening.

- Buses: Detours on 15 routes that run through Center City will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and be in place the entire day. Routes affected are 5, 7, 9, 17, 21, 32, 33, 38, 42, 43, 44, 47, 48, 57 and 61. Other routes will face detours due to other celebrations in areas that include Roxborough, Lawnside, Rockledge, Cheltenham and Glenside.

- Regional Rail: Trains will operate later than usual to accommodate passengers leaving Center City after the fireworks Saturday night. Eighteen trains will leave suburban station between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

PATCO

- Special schedules are in place Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are more afternoon and evening trains Thursday, fewer rush-hour trains Friday and more frequent service Saturday.

NJ Transit

- Early getaway service will run on some lines Thursday afternoon. Saturday service will be in effect for some routes on Friday.

Roads

- Celebrations near Independence Mall and on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will lead to numerous street closures, some of which extend from Friday into Sunday.

- The inbound inner lanes of the Parkway will be closed from 9:30 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday.

- The outbound inner lanes of the Parkway will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, reopen until 6:30 p.m., then close from 6:30 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday.

- The entire Parkway will be closed to vehicles Saturday from 5 a.m. to midnight. The stretch between 20th and 25th streets will be closed until 5 a.m. Sunday.

- Many streets will be shut down at varying times for Saturday's parade:

5 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Chestnut Street (5th to Front), 3rd Street (Chestnut to Walnut) and 4th Street (Market to Chestnut) from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.

10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Chestnut Street (6th to 9th); 9th Street (Chestnut to Market); Market Street (9th to Front); 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th streets (Arch to Walnut); 6th Street (Arch to Chestnut); Strawberry Street (Market to Chestnut); Bank Street (Market to Chestnut)

11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Dock Street and Front Street (Market to Chestnut)
