Last day for Bridgeport police chief

MONTGOMERY COUNTY Last day for Bridgeport police chief BRIDGEPORT Friday is the last day on the job for Bridgeport Borough's police chief.

BRIDGEPORT Friday is the last day on the job for Bridgeport Borough's police chief.

Chief John Dougherty, who became chief in 2013, submitted his resignation this month.

The borough council accepted the resignation and shared "kind words for the chief" at a meeting this week, said Borough Manager Don Curley. Dougherty did not publicly provide a reason for resigning, Curley said.

Bob Ruxton, a retired Horsham police chief, will serve as interim administrator. Curley said Ruxton will oversee daily police operations while the borough searches for a new chief.

The search process is expected to last several months. - Laura McCrystal
