Historic sites receive grant money

WEST CHESTER The state will give a total of $92,000 to three Chester County organizations to aid their historic preservation efforts, the office of State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester) announced last week.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission awarded the funds to Lincoln University, Pocopson Township, and the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art.

The commission's Keystone Historic Preservation Project Grant program supports projects that promote and protect historic and archaeological resources in Pennsylvania to benefit communities.

"This grant program is a valuable tool in preserving the historic structures and places that helped define Chester County and give our region such a distinct sense of place," Dinniman said in a statement.

Lincoln will receive $25,000 to help it preserve its historic sites.

Pocopson will get $50,000 to rehabilitate the Eusebius Barnard House, a stop on the Underground Railroad.

The conservancy will get $17,000 to preserve the springhouse at Kuerner Farm, a National Historic Landmark. - Michaelle Bond
