Bucks man pleads guilty to murder

A 25-year-old Langhorne man pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder for fatally stabbing his uncle during a drunken altercation on New Year's Eve, prosecutors said.

A 25-year-old Langhorne man pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder for fatally stabbing his uncle during a drunken altercation on New Year's Eve, prosecutors said.

Kyle Simpson received a prison sentence of 13 to 26 years from Judge C. Theodore Fritsch Jr., said Michele Walsh, a Bucks County assistant district attorney.

"This was a tragedy for the entire family," Walsh said after the hearing.

Simpson's public defender could not be reached for comment.

Simpson was intoxicated Dec. 31 at the home he shared with his uncle when he retrieved a black hunting knife from his bedroom, authorities said.

When the uncle, Stanley "Ernie" Taylor, 58, tried to persuade Simpson to put the blade down, Walsh said, Simpson instead plunged it into Taylor's stomach. He died the next morning.

A distraught Simpson had to be subdued by Taser when police arrived, authorities said.

Walsh said Simpson did not say much in court Monday, and has not explained why he committed the crime.

Taylor's widow, Mary, asked Walsh to speak on her behalf in court, to tell her nephew that she still loved him but that "it's going to take a long time [before] the forgiveness can even start."
