Back seat driver: Creepy Uber operator allegedly rubs himself the wrong way
A Philadelphia Uber driver is accused of fondling himself in front of a passenger in Avalon.
A PHILLY UBER driver is in trouble at the Jersey Shore for allegedly getting manual with his stick shift in front of a female passenger last month in an incident she caught on video.
Police in Avalon, Cape May County, have charged Nayal Salem, 57, of Bustleton Avenue near Evarts Street in Rhawnhurst, with lewdness, false imprisonment and harassment stemming from the Memorial Day incident.
Salem, according to Avalon police, picked up the female passenger in Sea Isle City after she requested an Uber driver.
The victim said Salem got into the back seat with her and began rubbing himself. The victim also told police she was locked in the car.
A video of the incident posted on Facebook by the victim's friend has audio commentary by Salem and was later picked up by DailyMail.com
"God, I love your body. My god, I love your body. Your body is beautiful," Salem says as he rubs his pants.
The victim tells Salem he's bugging her out and asks him to stop.
Marty O'Rourke, a spokesman for the Philadelphia Parking Authority, said Salem is a driver with UberBLACK and had no prior criminal activity.
A spokesman for Uber said Salem, who was allowed to operate at the Shore as well as in the city, has been removed as a driver. The company reached out to the passenger to apologize, the spokesman said.
Scott Wahl, a spokesman for the borough of Avalon, said background checks are performed on all taxi and jitney drivers licensed to work in the resort town and he urged residents and tourist to use them. No such checks are done on Uber.
Salem could not be reached for comment. He was served a summons to appear at the Avalon Municipal Court on June 22.
