Jenkintown police: Hey kid, good job

JENKINTOWN Jenkintown police have been given a ticketing quota this summer, the borough announced Thursday. But rest easy, drivers, the tickets aren't for you. They are for your kids.

Police in the tiny borough will be on the lookout for children practicing pedestrian and roadway safety, and rewarding them with free stuff.

Using the crosswalk? Gift certificate for the toy store.

Looking both ways? Come get your portrait taken. OK, that prize may be more exciting to Mom, but it's a prize nonetheless.

Local businesses donated $1,900 worth of cash and prizes for the summer safety effort. It will culminate in November with a raffle for a new bike, donated by the Police Department. - Jessica Parks
