A 35-year-old South Philadelphia woman was sexually assaulted in her bed by a masked intruder and robbed early Monday, according to police.

The woman awoke around 5:30 a.m. to see a stranger standing over her, police said. The suspect, described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, placed his hand over her mouth, assaulted her, and demanded money. Before he fled, he took $10 from the victim's purse and pocketed her house and car keys, police said.

He also took her roommate's ID card and warned the victim against contacting authorities, police said.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-food-9 African American with a medium build. He was wearing a mask, wool hat, black pants, black long-sleeved zip-up jacket or sweatshirt and red gloves, police said.

The point of entry into the home in the 1800 block of Rosewood Street was unknown, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
