DOYLESTOWN A Doylestown Township zoning board hearing Monday night could bring the fate of a proposed museum and theater honoring Oscar Hammerstein II closer to a resolution, the projects' proponents said last week.

Will Hammerstein, grandson of the famed Broadway lyricist, has been spearheading the effort to develop a 400-seat theater and museum on the farm where he wrote the words to musicals such as Oklahoma!, South Pacific, and the Sound of Music.

The younger Hammerstein, 52, and his supporters have gone before the zoning board four times so far to discuss variances they need to complete the project. Several township officials, including some solicitors, have opposed the project on the basis of its scale. The zoning board will decide which variances to approve or deny. Hammerstein said he expects Monday's meeting to be filled with final arguments. A decision isn't expected until at least next month.
