COATESVILLE Coatesville will kick off its yearlong centennial celebration at 10 a.m. Monday at the old Coatesville Train Station.

"It's an opportunity not only to celebrate the history of the community, but also to look to the future," said Frances Sheehan, head of the Brandywine Health Foundation in Coatesville.

Elected officials and developers are to update the community on projects to revamp the train station at Fleetwood and Third Avenues and revitalize Chester County's only city.

State, county, and municipal politicians are scheduled to attend. Leslie Richards, the state's acting secretary of transportation, also plans to be there.

The winner of a contest to create a logo for the centennial is to be announced. Hundreds of students entered, Sheehan said.

The city plans to hold a centennial concert Sept. 12 at a site to be determined, and a heritage day on Oct. 17 will involve walking tours of the community as well as children's activities in Chester Ash Memorial Park.
