A deliveryman was shot and killed in Crescentville late Thursday night, police said.

Rendong Zheng, 49, of North Philadelphia, was making a delivery from the New China Restaurant when he was killed by a gunshot to the shoulder.

Second District officers responded to a report of gunshots around 10:37 p.m. Friday on the 500 block of Hillcreek Park, a street in a housing development off Rising Sun Avenue. But when they arrived, they saw nothing in the area.

Shortly afterward, the Fire Department was called to a one-car accident on the 500 block of Adams Avenue - just outside the development where gunshots had been reported.

Inside the car, they found Zheng with a gunshot wound in his left shoulder. He was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police said he had been making a delivery from the New China Restaurant on the 5800 block of Rising Sun Avenue.

Police later found ballistic evidence on Hillcreek Park, where the gunshots had originally been reported, they said.

New China, a family-owned restaurant, employs about six people, neighbors said. The restaurant was closed Friday.

Employees of nearby businesses said that Zheng was quiet and that they frequently saw him coming and going throughout the day as he delivered orders, but rarely interacted with him, said Joaquin Marmolejos, manager of Dean Deli Grocery, a convenience store next to the restaurant.

No arrests have been made in the incident. Anyone with any information on the slaying is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334. A $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction is offered in all Philadelphia homicide cases.
