Morrisville policeman hurt; driver of stolen car shot twice

A Morrisville police corporal shot and wounded a man who backed a stolen car into him in a 7-Eleven parking lot early Saturday, officials said.

A Morrisville police corporal shot and wounded a man who backed a stolen car into him in a 7-Eleven parking lot early Saturday, officials said.

Morrisville Police Chief George McClay said the corporal noticed an apparently unoccupied Subaru Impreza in the store parking lot at Bridge and Philadelphia Streets and ran the tags around 5:25 a.m.

The car, McClay said, had been reported stolen. The corporal approached it, realized it was occupied, and ordered the driver out, McClay said.

That's when the man backed the car into the corporal's patrol car, hitting the officer, McClay said.

The officer fired twice into the side of the car, striking the man once in the chest, McClay said.

The driver fled down Bridge Street before the car hit a barrier and was launched onto a hill, McClay said. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition, McClay said.

The corporal was treated at Aria Health Bucks County for an arm injury and released, McClay said.

Following department protocol, the officer will be placed on administrative duty as the Bucks County district attorney investigates the shooting.

McClay said video from the 7-Eleven corroborated the corporal's account.

He described the wounded man as a 26-year-old from Levittown. The case is under investigation, but he said he expected the man to be charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related charges. He remains under police guard, McClay said.
