Grants to benefit community projects

MEDIA The Delaware County Council approved federal grant funding last week for five community projects, totaling more than $550,000.

Grant funding will provide $153,000 for streetscape improvements in Marcus Hook. An additional $180,000 will go toward improvements to the Primos Elementary School playground for the Upper Darby School District.

Other projects include $50,000 to rehabilitate athletic fields in Eddystone, $135,900 for storm water drainage improvements in Norwood, and $40,000 for demolition of a blighted structure in Chester Township.

Linda Hill, director of the county's office of housing and community development, said at last Wednesday's council meeting that the projects and grants would benefit the county's low-income residents. - Laura McCrystal
