A West Chester University student was raped on campus, university police said Friday. A male student identified as the assailant was removed from campus.

A female student told campus police she was raped in a residence hall around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. She reported the incident at about 6 a.m. Thursday.

The arrest of the assailant is pending, said Pam Sheridan, executive director of communications for the university.

The victim and the assailant knew each other, the university said.

It was the second rape reported to campus police this school year, Sheridan said. The other occurred in the fall.

The university sent out an alert to the campus community just before 1 p.m. on Friday saying a crime had occurred on campus.
