Man dies after early morning shooting in Nicetown-Tioga

A 24-year-old man has died after being shot several times inside his car early Friday morning in Nicetown-Tioga, police said.

The man was driving a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis that headed south on the 3700 block of Germantown Avenue when the shooting occurred at 2:15 a.m., police said.

The bullets appeared to strike him three times in the torso and back, police said.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 a.m., police said.

Two other people were in the car during the shooting, but neither was injured.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, with a thin to medium build. He wore a black, hooded sweatshirt was last seen walking toward Butler Street. Police said the motive is unknown.
