Rita M. Jensen, 72, of Gloucester City, who worked as a food service director at local schools and as a substitute teacher, died of myocardial infarction Sunday, Nov. 23, at her home. She died in her sleep, said daughter Michele Lugiano.

A 1960 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, Ms. Jensen was food service director for a number of schools and assisted-living facilities in the area. She loved to dance and swim, and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester City.

She expressed her faith through the generosity she showed towards strangers, her daughter said, often bringing them home for a meal, and once allowing a hitchhiker to live with the family while she helped him find work.

"We would meet people who would be in need, and my mother would take them in," Lugiano said.

In addition to her daughter, Ms. Jensen is survived by daughter Debbie Blake; son Wayne; two sisters; a brother; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A viewing was set for Friday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 30, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the McCann-Healey Funeral Home, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City.

Donations may be made to the Rita Jensen Memorial Fund, c/o McCann-Healey Funeral Home, Box 1071, Bellmawr, N.J. 08099-1071.
