Baer Growls Pennsylvania falls in biz-tax rankings
A new national ranking of states based on competitiveness in business taxes is out - and Pennsylvania is down.
The annual rankings are offered by the Washington, D.C.-based Tax Foundation, a respected think tank founded in 1937.
They include state-to-state comparisons in areas such as corporate taxes, sales taxes, property taxes and income taxes to measure how each state's tax system appeals to, attracts or deters business growth.
The 2015 overall ranking puts Pennsylvania 34th, a 10-place drop from the 2014 rankings.
A check of past years shows the foundation ranked Pennsylvania 19th in 2013 and 2012, and 21st in 2011.

Pennsylvania was dragged down by its high corporate tax rate, a last-place ranking in the unemployment-insurance tax and a 42nd-place ranking in property taxes.
The only evident solace? Neighbors Ohio, New York and New Jersey are ranked lower overall: 44th, 49th and 50th respectively.
States with the highest rankings are Wyoming, South Dakota, Nevada, Alaska and Florida.
