A city correctional officer was found stabbed to death in her home Friday afternoon in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia, authorities said.

Lottie Denny, 51, was found dead in her home in the 2500 block of South 63d Street by a family member, authorities said.

Shawn Hawes, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Prison System, said Denny did not show up for work at the department's facility at 600 University Ave., and a coworker contacted a family member about Denny's whereabouts and well-being.

Denny had worked as a correctional officer for 21 years, Hawes said.

"She was a well-liked and well-respected employee," Hawes said, adding that her colleagues were taking the news "really hard."

No arrest in the case was reported.
