West Phila shooting leaves man in critical condition

Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting in West Philadelphia that left a man in critical condition Friday night. Police found a man with a gunshot to the neck on the 5600 block of Osage avenue around 8:44 p.m. Police said the victim, 31, of West Philadelphia, had been fighting with another man that evening.

Police found a man with a gunshot to the neck on the 5600 block of Osage avenue around 8:44 p.m. Police said the victim, 31, of West Philadelphia, had been fighting with another man that evening.

His opponent had lost the fight, police said, and was walking away when the victim followed him and indicated he wanted to continue the fight. That's when the second man pulled out a gun, shot the victim and fled down Osage Avenue, police said.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive in the fight, and the shooter has not been arrested. The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Police described his assailant as a black male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, of medium build, and wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans. - Aubrey Whelan
