Roofer electrocuted, another injured in Delco mishap

A roofer was electrocuted Friday, and a second man injured when their ladder hit a high tension electric line while they were working on a Havertown home, Haverford Township police said.

A roofer was electrocuted Friday, and a second man injured when their ladder hit a high tension electric line while they were working on a Havertown home, Haverford Township police said.

John Chambers, 53, of Philadelphia, died at the scene, and Thomas McGarrigle, 23, also of Philadelphia was taken to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania with injuries to his hands and feet. Police said he was able to crawl away from the ladder and was semi-conscious.

The roofers were raising the ladder when they lost control of it and it hit the PECO wire while working on the Winton Avenue house. Police responded at 9:13 a.m.

The men were employed by Gerald Roffo Roofing of Philadelphia.
