NORRISTOWN On Tuesday, about 600 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will get to dress up, walk a red carpet and dance the night away in Norristown.

The NHS Human Services Foundation is holding a prom Tuesday evening for more than 600 clients from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Virginia.

Some of the attendees are teenagers, but many are older and "didn't have a chance to go to prom at a normal school like you or I," said Todd Loeb, director of communication for NHS.

Some of the clients took part in planning the event, selecting a red carpet theme, banquet dinner and live band, Loeb said. Staff will act as "paparazzi" when the guests arrive in their dresses and tuxedos.

NHS runs schools, day programs, in-home care, and residential facilities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. - Jessica Parks
