Free job training program seeks applicants

MEDIA Delaware County is accepting applications from at-risk youth for a job training program.

The Community Action Agency of Delaware County building trades program has up to 15 available positions for both male and female county residents age 17 to 21 who meet income requirements and are not enrolled in high school. The free training covers plumbing basics, construction/drywall, and electrical maintenance. Upon completion, participants will be certified in OSHA construction, lead safety and forklift operation.

The annual program is funded through the state's Work Force Investment Act, spokesman Dan Nesbitt said.

"We have had many successes," Nesbitt said.

Participants have gone on to work in related fields or with the agency's weatherization program, he said.

"These are kids who have moved on from any kind of regular school and are just interested in working," Nesbitt said.

Contact Carla Gordy at CAADC's Employment and Training Department at 610-874-8451, Ext. 1047 for more information and applications.
