Summit on risky teen behavior is scheduled for Sept. 8

SPRINGFIELD Delaware County is scheduled to host a summit on risky teen behavior just in time for the start of school.

The town-hall-type meeting will feature a keynote address by Kevin A. Sabet, director of the Drug Policy Institute at the University of Florida, and District Attorney Jack Whelan.

The summit will review data from the 2013 Pennsylvania Youth Survey, which canvassed students in sixth, eighth, 10th, and 12th grades about their "behavior, attitudes, and knowledge concerning alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and violence."

"If you look at the use of cigarettes between 2009 and 2013, our numbers have actually gone down," said Jonna L. DiStefano, administrator for the county Office of Behavioral Health, which hosts the summit.

The event, free and open to the public, is set to take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Springfield County Club, 400 W. Sproul Rd. Lunch will be provided.
