CONSTANCE MURRAY left her home on a quiet, winding Northeast Philadelphia street about 9 p.m. Monday to go for a jog on the warm summer night.

Yesterday morning, about nine hours after leaving for her jog, Murray, 46, was found dead a few blocks from home, her body lying along a wooded stretch of Pennypack Park, tucked behind the small Holme Crispin Cemetery and a baseball field at Holme and Convent avenues. She was identified by a police source.

That's about all police knew last night about the death of the wife and mother, known as Connie among friends and relatives. Homicide Capt. James Clark confirmed last night that detectives in his unit took over the investigation, and called Murray's death suspicious but said police did not know the cause of death and had no leads in the case.

Clark said that when Murray didn't return home from her jog within about two or three hours Monday night, her husband got worried and went looking for her, to no avail. About 2 a.m. yesterday, her husband filed a missing-person report with police.

Just after 6 a.m., someone walking in the park stumbled upon Murray's body. She was pronounced dead there, police said.

About 12 children and adults gathered outside Murray's home yesterday afternoon, embracing and talking with each other. Relatives declined to be interviewed.

Several photos on Murray's Facebook page show the pretty blond woman smiling widely at the camera. She was a member of the Crispin Gardens Athletic Club, located at the park where she was found, according to her profile page.

It's unclear how many children Murray had or how old they are. Details of her life - and of her untimely death - remained shrouded in mystery last night as police continued their investigation.

Tipsters should call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or the police tip line at 215-686-8477.
