DOYLESTOWN Bucks County's clerk of courts recently was elected to lead a statewide board of court officials.

Mary Smithson was chosen as president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Court for the 2014-15 term, the county announced last week. Her term began July 10.

The agency encourages communication among county officials who oversee criminal and civil courts across Pennsylvania, according to its website.

Smithson has been Bucks County's clerk of courts since 1996. Her office oversees operations of the county's criminal court system.
