STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - The fun and games are over at a carnival in the Poconos after a judge ordered it shut down.

Monroe County Judge Stephen Higgins agreed Friday to a request by Middle Smithfield Township to close the carnival.

The judge says the landowner didn't have the right kind of permit. Property owner John Petrizzo argued unsuccessfully that the carnival, operated by S&S Amusements, was covered by a permit he already has for a flea market on the six-acre property.

The Pocono Record reports the carnival had been operating all week. It was scheduled to run through Saturday night.

The carnival was run annually at nearby Fernwood Resort, but that site was already booked.
